OM  MA  SA  HU  AN  KHU  ISA

What's a Mantra?

Mantra is a seed-syllable, or a series of seed-syllables, that resonates harmoniously and manifests a potential outcome.   Like a seed that ultimately results in a flower, a mantra is invoked to create a particular response or outcome.  Sound has the capacity to greatly influence matter.  For example, certain sound frequencies collapse matter, like ultrasound which is used to remove plaque from teeth and arteries.  Other sound frequencies cohere matter.

Mantras are practiced as a form of meditation in which the practitioner recites a syllable, or a series of syllables, a specific number of times.  A mantra is often accompanied by detailed visualization in addition to precise body postures called mudra.  When performed by a skilled practitioner, mantra and mudra can serve as a vehicle to directly transmit wisdom heart/mind-to-heart/mind (for example, from a teacher to a student).

Although mantra is commonly associated with speech, or the spoken word, mantra may also be "soundless" (like the "eternal Om") and resonate at frequencies beyond the usual 15 to 20,000-hertz range of human hearing, i.e., ("... in the beginning was the Word" ...).

When properly performed, mantra arises through the breath.  As the breath moves unimpeded through the wind pipes of the body, spontaneous, melodic and multi-phonic sound is produced similar to wind passing through a reed or flute.  Few have mastered this ancient art of mantric-breath; however, the more common practice of mantric-recitation can still have a profound, transformational and beneficial affect upon the practitioner and the surrounding environment.

What the Mantra Evokes:

Om:  "Om" is often referred to as the "sacred word."  In fact, it is not merely a word but a cosmic principal that is the source of all manifestation.  Just as the engine on a train is the source of power that moves all of the other cars, Om is the vehicle that brings into manifestation the other syllables of the mantra.

Ma:  Evokes the divine cosmic feminine principal.
(Note the similarity in meaning of the English word "Ma" meaning "Mother").

Sa:  Refers to the enlightened wisdom-body that results in protection or salvation.

Hu:  The soundless-sound (a very high vibrational frequency) that results in the manifestation of Light into matter (or the same principal as "In the beginning was the "Word").  This seed syllable and the one that precedes it form the Sahu, the imperishable immortal light "body" the ancient Egyptians equated with the star Sirius.  In Tibetan mysticism, the Dharmakaya ("Truth Body") is equivalent to the Sahu.

An: Refers to the perfected heart.

Khu: Refers to the perfected soul.

Note: If you combine "An" and "Khu," it forms the word "Ankh", the ancient Egyptian symbol for eternal Life.

Isa: One of the secret names of Isis, the Egyptian netert (primordial force) of universal Love.

Note: If you break this syllable into two, you have "Is" and "Sa."  Once again, "Is" refers to "Isis", however, the English word "is" also refers to a state of being.  Sa is an ancient Egyptian word that means protection or salvation through enlightened awareness.

Therefore, this particular mantra manifests within the individual who recites it the perfection of heart and soul -- Divine Love and Enlightened Awareness respectively -- resulting in protection and longevity of Life!

Phonetic Pronunciation:     Ohm Ma Saw Hu On Ku Ezah

How to Recite the Mantra:

Find a quiet place where you're not likely to be interrupted.  Sit or lie down.  Visualize the image of each Keyholder in your mind (see photos on Keyholder Profiles page.  If no photo is posted, think of the individual by name).  Generate a feeling of gratitude and genuine friendship for each individual by thinking of something nice about them:  i.e., an appreciation that they share a mutual interest in Egypt; something you like about the way they look; an interest, hobby or skill they possess that you admire; a kindness they have bestowed upon you, etc.  Then feel a similar appreciation for all beings seen and unseen whom you have or will have contact with in conjunction to this sacred journey (from travel personnel, hotel staff, bus drivers and store clerks to the guardians, celestial beings and the neteroo themselves).  Once you have completed the visualization process for each, recite the mantra Om Ma Sa Hu An Khu Isa a minimum of 7 times.  You may recite it as many times as you like in multiples of 7 (i.e., 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, etc.).  Try to recite the mantra on a daily basis for the maximum benefit.
